Howard Eugene Blake, Sr.

Mr. Howard Eugene Blake, Sr., 71, of Wynne, Arkansas, died Sunday, August 7, 2022, at St. Bernard's in Jonesboro. Howard was born on May 9, 1951, in Wynne, Arkansas, to the late Samuel Eugene and Geneva Powell Blake. He was a welder for Burnett Construction Company until retirement. He was a graduate of Wynne High School and a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. Howard loved going to deer camp every chance he could. He would go to the White River Refuge with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing more than anywhere he went. He loved sitting around the campfire telling jokes and drinking a good cold beer. He enjoyed planting gardens, cooking bar-b-que for others and helping others anyway he could. He raised fighting chickens and always enjoyed going to Mississippi for the fights (even though it was illegal). He considered his children and grandchildren some of his greatest accomplishments in life. Howard lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He was good to so many kids. If he liked you, he liked you and if he didn't, well you knew. He was a very good man with a good heart for others. Survivors are his children, Amanda Wyatt of Clarksville, Arkansas, Heather Blake of Tuscon, Arizona, Howard "Howie" Blake, Jr. and wife Jackie of Wynne, Samuel Blake of Wynne, grandchildren, Matt, Luke, and Raylan Blake, Madison Blake and Savannah Meyer, and sister, Ann McKee of Colt. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Virginia Blake, parents, Samuel and Geneva Balke, siblings, Steve Blake, Stanley Blake, and Rhonda Fryman. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Kernodle Funeral Home from 1 to 3 PM. Funeral services will follow at 3 PM with Rev. Carl Weatherford officiating. Pallbearers are Chris Kennon, Dub Smith, Jeff Davis, Dale Stricklin, John Shaw Jr, and Skipper Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Holleman, Shirl Short, Randy Stricklin, B. J. Burnett, Louie Devereux, Eddie Ransom, Leaborn Ellis, Doug Kennon, Steve Stricklin, Lanny Lancaster, Larry Adams and David Kennon. Burial will be in Ellis Chapel Cemetery.
