Leo "Hot" Smith

Mr. Leo "Hot" Smith died on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at CrossRidge Community Hospital in Wynne. "Hot" was born on October 5, 1926, to the late Forrest and Thelma Stone Smith in Wynne. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Kristen Tate Smith, son-in-law, Bill Clayton, his sister, Mary George "Sis" Cathey, and brothers, Woodrow "Shorty" Smith and Edward "Red" Smith. "Hot" is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Charlene Doss Smith, of Wynne, his daughter, Lynne Smith Clayton (Dr. James "Jim" Jacobs) of Wynne, son, Ronnie Smith (Donna) of Okeechobee, Florida, his granddaughter Katie Clayton Brown (Matt) of Wynne, grandson Kendal Todd Smith of Florida, and great grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Madison Smith and Cassidy Smith of Springfield, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Navy. He returned to Wynne after the service and married Mary Charlene Doss. After he retired from Missouri Pacific Truck Line, he founded Leo Smith Trucking Company and operated it for many years. "Hot" was a proud member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He loved being outside either gardening or riding his tractor or golf cart. He was a devoted "Papaw" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also particularly fond of his new truck. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1 PM until 2 PM at Kernodle Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Robert Crockett will officiate, pallbearers be will James Cathey, Rob Cathey, Derrick Cathey, Dr. Jake Cathey, Jerry Smith, Keith Lawrence, Thomas Hale, Harold Cathey, Chester Williams and Johnny Benefield.
