Joy Sue Franklin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joy Sue Franklin February 21, 1935, to June 11, 2022, was born in Wynne, AR to George and Leona Crowder. She leaves a legacy behind with her four children and in laws: Lacy (Debbie) Brown, Memphis, TN, Dale Brown, Memphis, TN, Boyd (Gloria Bishop) Brown, Memphis, TN and Wanda (Bill) Brown, Tumbling Shoals, AR, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brothers: Willie Crowder, Parkin, AR and Johnny (Fanny Lou still living) Crowder, Saltillo, MS and sisters Mabel (Ollie) Lewis, Michigan, Lillie Mae Thompson, Bethany, OK, and her daughter in law Debra Black, as well as husbands: JD Brown, Parkin, AR, Leonard Hall, West Memphis, AR and WE (Sonny) Franklin, Parkin, AR. Joy spent her childhood in the Wynne and Parkin, AR area. Upon her marriage to JD Brown she moved to El Paso, TX where her boys were all born, She then moved with JD to Camp Zama, Japan where their daughter was born and she became fluent in Japanese. From there they moved to Midwest City, OK, where she started her lifetime career as an accountant/bookkeeper/office manager. Her next move was back to Parkin, AR where she served long and efficiently as City Clerk. Joy had a long career and lived and worked in West Memphis and Memphis for businesses such as Frye/Joure, Fantastic Sam’s, University of TN Memphis in the Dept of Psychiatry and subsequently retired from Wilson Lumber Company. Joy loved each member of her family and friends. Her children can attest that she was a proud strong woman that raised strong children. She had friends that she had known and stayed in touch with since she was in Japan that she cared for deeply. Not enough praise can be given to her neighbors that she enjoyed friendships with since moving to her last home in 1992. Her children would be remiss if not giving special thanks to the Jackson family who treated Joy as a part of their family with their help with doctors’ appointments and many other of her needs over the years. There will not be a formal funeral per Joy’s request. Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne, AR is handling her physical needs based on her wishes. The family will be gathering for a private celebration of her life on a date to be announced. Anyone interested in attending the celebration should contact any family member.
