Laura Mae Glass

Laura Mae Glass, 99, passed away on September 15, 2026, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born on April 20, 1927, in Morton, Arkansas, the daughter of Fred Swindle and Lillie Mae Cook Swindle. Laura Mae lived a long, faithful, and love-filled life centered around her family, her faith, and serving others. One of the greatest testaments to her strength and independent spirit was her ability to remain in her own home until her final day. At 99 years old, she continued to live life her way—a reflection of her strength, her faith, and, as her family will happily admit, a little bit of stubbornness. They would not have had her any other way. Laura Mae was a graduate of West Point High School. She married C. M. “Chuck” Glass, and they shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. She worked in the Hickory Ridge/Cross County School cafeteria system for 25 years, serving as head cook at the time of her retirement. She was also an active member of the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Club (AEHC), where she served several terms as president. Through the club, Laura Mae enjoyed fellowship, lasting friendships, and many opportunities to serve the community she loved. Laura Mae was a longtime member of Tilton Methodist Church, where her faith was an important part of her daily life. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school, touching the lives of many children with her kind and caring spirit. Well into her nineties, Laura Mae continued to clean and decorate the church. She especially enjoyed decorating the annual Harvest Supper, a special celebration honoring local farmers. Affectionately known as “Nonnie” to her grandchildren and friends, Laura Mae rarely missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. They were her pride and joy, and she was always their number one fan. She celebrated each of their accomplishments, encouraged them throughout their lives, and made certain they always knew how deeply they were loved. Laura Mae was also an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan who loved cheering on her Hogs in every sport. Among her treasured belongings was a signed baseball that she proudly considered one of her most prized possessions. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck Glass, in 1992; five brothers, Morris, Neal, Mac, Doyle, and Jim; one sister, Christine; and her great-grandson, Aiden Howell. Laura Mae is survived by her daughter, Kathy Glass Stevenson and husband Dennis of Hickory Ridge; her son, Harvey Glass and wife Rita of Searcy; two sisters, Tolice Elliott of Searcy and Maxine Wagley of North Little Rock; and two sisters-in-law, Carlyn Swindle of Searcy and Mary Lou Glass of Hickory Ridge. Her grandchildren also survive her, Matt Stevenson and wife Shelley, Amber Barnes and husband Travis, Natalie Gregg and husband Jordan, Samantha Smith and husband Shaun, Jason Glass and wife Brandi, and Curtis Glass and wife Victoria. Laura Mae was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren: Celeste Cedras, Hayden Barnes, Collier Barnes, Cole Barnes, Bethany Howell, Alaina Smith, Addie Mae Smith, Brayson Glass, Bennett Glass, Nyklas Glass, Sidnee Glass, and Camille Glass. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones whose lives were made better by knowing her. Laura Mae leaves a legacy that cannot be measured simply by the years she lived, but by the love she gave throughout those years. Though her chair may now be empty and her voice may be quiet, the love she poured into her family will continue through every generation that follows. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, and her love for them will remain her most enduring legacy. Rest peacefully, Nonnie. You were loved beyond measure, and you will be missed beyond words. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Tilton Methodist from 1 to 2 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery.
