Clara Thompson

Clara Fay Smith Thompson was born Clara Fay Worley on October 23, 1927 in Sand Slue of Cross County, Arkansas to Lee Worley and Josie May Thomas Worley. Clara Fay was welcomed home by her heavenly father on Wednesday April 18, 2012 at the age of 84. Clara Fay Worley married Charles David Smith in March of 1942. Seven children were born to that union, Lola Larry Charlotte, Sharon, David, Chris and Belinda Smith. On September 8, 1967, Clara Fay Smith and Elmer “Bo” Thompson were married. Proverbs 31: 10-31 “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” This passage of scripture describes Clara perfectly. She lived a humble life, rising early, working and sacrificing to provide for her family. She had a talent for sewing and used that talent to benefit her family and others in the community. Family was the most important thing in her life, next to God. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by family. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and sacrificially. She was tough as nails and soft as silk and although she endured unbelievable things in her lifetime she never allowed it to defeat her, but instead allowed God to make her stronger for it all. She was altogether a very admirable woman and a true inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer “Bo’ Thompson, first husband, Charles Smith, son Larry Rue Smith, brother, Same Worley, sisters, Lula May Frost and Lorine Clegg; grandson Stephen Thompson and great grandsons, Nathan Thompson and James Brock. Survivors are her children, Lola Ponder and husband Elmer of Colt; Charlotte Barnett of Wynne; Sharon Hillis and husband Gary of Proctor, David Smith and wife Evelyn of Crestview, FL; Christopher Smith of Santa Rosa, CA., Belinda Hollis and husband Bobby of Cherokee Village; step-sons, Eugene Thompson and wife Linda of Ardmore, OK; Carl Thompson and wife Lee of Bay Minette, AL; Billy Thompson and wife Karen of Forrest City; brother, Edward Worley and sister, Dora Draughon and 21 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6 to 8 PM at Kernodle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, April 20, 2012 at Ridgewood Baptist Church in Caldwell at 10 AM with burial in Loughridge Cemetery.
