Mrs. Jenny Harris Lindsey

Jenny Harris Lindsey passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family. She was born June 19, 1943, to Robert Edwin Harris, Sr. and Marguerite Skelton Harris. She was the third of four children having two older sisters and a younger brother. She lived all her life in the Caldwell community. Jenny graduated from Forrest City High School in 1961. She was popular among her classmates and known for her pleasant personality and her winsome smile. Following graduation, she started working at First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas. On December 19, 1964, she married Elmer B. Lindsey at First Baptist Church of Caldwell, where they were both devoted members and faithful servants until the Lord called them home. Jenny served in various capacities including singing in the choir and working in the children’s ministry of Vacation Bible School and AWANA and anywhere else that she was needed. Jenny and B had three children, Lisa, Bubba and Jay, who brought them great joy. From childhood into adulthood, they have never doubted that their parents were their biggest cheerleaders, strongest supporters and greatest fans. Jenny was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. One of her many interests was music. She enjoyed many genres and was a talented singer. She loved Elvis and was the proud owner of an album cover that he autographed when she met him early in his career at a Memphis record store. Several years ago, she made a CD and recorded one of her favorite songs, “Serenaded by Angels.” She was a member of the “Granny’s Kitchen Band,” that traveled throughout Arkansas wearing old fashioned dresses and bonnets, playing washtubs and rub boards and providing entertainment to the young and old alike. She enjoyed attending concerts and other theatrical performances. Travel was near the top of her list of favorite things. She traveled to Mexico with a group of bankers shortly after graduation. She loved family vacations and often enjoyed traveling to watch sporting events including Cardinal games, Razorback games or Spring Training events in Florida. Austria and Germany were among the destinations of her overseas trips. Last fall, she was able to enjoy a trip of sightseeing to the Western United States that had been on her bucket list. Because she had always wanted to go to Disney World, last December she boarded the plane to see Mickey Mouse and loved every minute of getting her picture taken with all the characters. Most recently, in June 2023, she traveled to the beach to celebrate her 80th birthday. Whether going to Branson to her condo or on a trip abroad, she was always flanked by close friends and family members. She has a quote in her home above a map that says, “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” Her husband, B, said it this way, “Jenny has never seen a trip that she didn’t want to go on.” As a founding member of Ridgecrest Country Club, she enjoyed playing golf and taking her kids to swim in the summer. She also took them to the Forrest City Library weekly, because of her passion for reading. She agreed totally with the motto of the Red Hat Society “Love, Laugh and Be Happy.” She looked forward to the monthly gatherings with others who donned their purple clothes and red hats to share a meal or an activity in the community. Being married to a cotton farmer and gin operator, Jenny led out in pioneering the Cotton Pickin’ Festival in Caldwell. The first year was such a huge success, it continued annually for many years until it was suspended due to the pandemic. She served as the Caldwell City Clerk for 18 years before retirement. She most recently served on the St. Francis County Museum Board as well as the Board of Trustees at Central Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas. Although she was very small in stature, her home going has left a huge hole in our hearts. Those who are left to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lisa Lindsey Morris (David) of Conway; sons, Cary Baxter “Bubba” Lindsey (Susan) of Caldwell; James Elmer “Jay” Lindsey (Kasie) of Caldwell; grandsons, Cody Baxter Morris (Kacie) of Conway; Drew Flowers (Kenlee) of Salem; Cody Flowers (Sarah) of Caldwell; great granddaughter, Emersyn Kate Morris; great grandsons, Kenneth Neal Flowers, Baxter Lee Flowers and Drake Allen Flowers; two sisters, Marleta Garrison of Morrilton; Gerry Harrod of Caldwell; sisters in law, Joyce Harris of North Little Rock; Claudette Ferguson of Harrison; Nita Lindsey of Fayetteville; brother in law, Jim Lindsey of Fayetteville and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Eddie Harris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Caldwell, P.0.
